10 Built Environment Events to Attend in 2022

2022 has been a significant year for the built environment sector. As a result of the hardships of the pandemic, the sector became more conscious of “people” in their strategies and activities. The issues of equality, diversity, accessibility, gender, race, economics, sustainability, and more, are now heated topics of discussion amongst architects, developers, planners, agents, placemakers, designers, researchers, and marketers working in the built environment. These vital topics were also central to the events and festival held earlier this year, such as London Festival of Architecture, Movers & Shakers, London Design Week, and Festival of Place, to name but a few.

The last quarter of 2022 is still going strong with events that everyone working in the built environment should consider attending. For your convenience, we have compiled some of the highlights in this post. See you all there!

6. Theatres Trust Conference 22: Theatres Fit for the Future

11 October 2022, Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, London

If we learnt one thing from the pandemic, it’s how integral and indispensable art and culture are to people’s lives. However, despite all this, sadly the theatre industry paid a big price during the lockdowns. Theatres Trust Conference 2022 will take a broad look at the state of the UK’s theatres and ask how they can come back stronger from the pandemic. What will the ‘new post-Covid normal’ look like and what does this mean for the way we design, adapt and run our theatres?

There are various talks and events included in this conference, with one panel discussion, ‘Theatres and Placemaking’, particularly relating to the built environment sector. Chaired by Vicki Dela Amedume, the Albany, Futurecity’s Founder and CEO Mark Davy will join Patrick J O'Reilly, Tinderbox Theatre Company, Belfast and Daniel Winder, Stanley Arts, Croydon to discuss how theatres can contribute to placemaking and levelling up.

These ‘places’ are now often inter-generational - requiring ‘Spaces to Grow’, are mixed-income, and going forward, most likely to be built on land that is yet to be un-locked for development.
